A great result is a partnership. We bring the timing, products and expertise, and a few small things at your end help every treatment do its job. Here’s what helps most before and after a visit.
Do I need to mow before you come?
Ideally, yes. Cutting 2 to 3 days before our visit gives us the best surface to work with. Don’t worry if you haven’t managed to though, we’ll still carry out the treatment.
Avoid mowing the lawn for 2-3 days after treatment.
Can I do anything extra to help recovery?
Yes, An application of our Water Solution formula reduces surface tension in the soil so that rain and water can penetrate and spread more efficiently, it is a perfect treatment for soil health and natural drought recovery. Save 25% when applied with your next treatment.
What should I clear from the lawn?
Please move pots, ornaments, toys, trampolines and garden furniture at least 3 feet from the edge of the lawn, and clear the surface of any obstacles. It helps us treat right up to the edges and keeps everyone safe on the day.
Will you be able to get access on the day?
Please make sure we can reach the lawn on your visit day. A locked gate means we can’t treat the lawn and have to rebook, which affects other customers on the round too.
Some treatments, such as scarification and aeration, use large powered machines, so please check and ensure the route to the lawn through gates and side passages and gateways, is clear with enough room for equipment to pass.
Are there underground services you should tell us about?
This one matters. Please let us know in advance about anything hidden beneath the lawn, such as electric cables, irrigation pipes, pop up sprinkler heads or robotic mower cables. Knowing where they are protects both your lawn and our technician.
How should I cut the lawn through autumn?
Little and often is the aim as growth returns. Cutting every 7 to 14 days, and never removing more than a third of the height in one go, keeps the lawn healthy and encourages density. As a guide, family lawns do well at around 3cm and luxury lawns at 2cm. Regular cutting now makes a real difference to how the lawn looks next spring.
What should I do after the treatment?
A few simple things help it settle in:
- avoid mowing for 2 to 3 days so any weed control has time to work
- over seed bare patches with Green Velvet All Rounder if you’d like to thicken things up
- treat ant nests within the lawn, we recommend Ant Clear granule applied as a drench
We’ll always leave detailed aftercare notes tailored to your treatment, so you’re never left guessing.
What if my treatment includes scarification, aeration or over seeding?
These have a little extra preparation:
- scarification: cut lower than usual beforehand. We’ll collect and remove the thatch
- aeration: mow before our visit for the best results. Cores will be removed
- over seeding: water the lawn well before we arrive, then keep it moist afterwards for the best germination
What if you’re treating my patio or drive?
If your visit includes a patio or drive treatment, please remove any obstacles from the surface and give it a brush beforehand for the best result.
If brushing a larger area is a job in itself, our powered Drive Power Brush can do it for you, just ask.
Can you help with watering or waste removal?
Yes. For germination, a hose, sprinkler and timer make watering much easier, and a germination sheet helps protect seed from birds while reducing how often you need to water.
We will clear up and bag green waste, normally using your green waste bin first. Any remaining bags are left for your disposal in your green waste. If you need waste taking away, we suggest Billy Skip Bags www.billybag.co.uk

Whilst we bring harvested rain water with us, sometimes we may need to top up from your tap. please let us know if your not happy with this.
Is there anything about your lawn you’d like us to know?
You know your lawn better than anyone, and a quick note before we visit can make a real difference. If you’ve noticed anything, thinning or bare patches, moss, weeds, areas that stay wet or struggle in shade, or damage from pets or wear, do let us know. It helps our technician focus on what matters most and gives your lawn the best chance to recover well.
