Autumn is one of the most important times of year for your lawn, and this year more than most. Here are the questions we’re asked most often about your autumn treatment, so you know exactly what’s happening and why.
Why does autumn treatment matter so much?
After a long, dry summer the soil is often compacted and the grass is recovering from dormancy. Autumn is when we can put conditions right, easing compaction and feeding the soil to support root recovery while the lawn can still make use of the warm soils before winter. It sets the lawn up to come back stronger, ready for spring.
Now is also the ideal time to tackle compaction. Aeration relieves compacted ground by opening the soil, and the winter frosts then carry on the work, breaking the soil down further through freeze and thaw to improve structure by spring.
My lawn has gone brown. Should I be worried?
Not at all. After the summer we’ve had, many lawns have turned brown or straw coloured, and that’s a natural way of protecting themselves rather than a sign of lasting damage. Established, well maintained lawns usually recover once regular rainfall returns, and this autumn’s treatment is designed to support exactly that.
What is the autumn treatment actually doing?
This round we’ve updated our normal feed to our Autumn Stress Buster Liquid Feed and Drought Recovery treatment, adjusted to focus on recovery after the dry conditions. It works with the soil as growth returns, easing compacted ground to improve drainage, feeding the soil and supporting fresh root development. It builds on the summer feed to aid recovery, and it doesn’t need watering in.
Give your lawn a faster recovery
Our Water Solution® is a long-lasting soil health builder that helps your lawn manage water far more effectively. It keeps working in the soil for months, helping rain and watering soak in and spread evenly rather than running off or sitting in patches. The result is a greener lawn on far less watering, and healthier soil that holds onto moisture right through the recovery period and beyond. It’s the perfect partner to your autumn treatment for soil health and natural drought recovery.

Is autumn a good time for aeration?
It’s one of the best. If your lawn is compacted, or water tends to sit on the surface, aeration opens the soil so air, water and nutrients can reach the roots. Autumn timing works especially well, because the holes and loosened soil let winter frost do a second job for you. As water freezes and thaws it expands and contracts, breaking the soil down further over the season and improving structure naturally by spring. It’s a great partner to your autumn treatment and to Water Solution®, helping everything reach the root zone where it counts. If you’d like to know more, just ask or mention it to your technician on the day.
Will it include weed control?
Where weeds have newly emerged, weed control may be applied as part of the visit. It’s used carefully and is safe for children and pets once dry.
How soon will I see a difference?
Recovery is gradual rather than instant, and that’s normal. The treatment works beneath the surface on soil and roots, which is where lasting improvement comes from. As rainfall returns and growth picks up, you’ll see the lawn respond, with the fuller benefit showing through into next spring.
Why does keeping to the visit timing matter?
The treatment is timed to work as growth returns, when rainfall brings the grass out of dormancy, so having it done at the right point in the season is part of what makes it effective. Keeping to your planned visit helps your lawn make the most of the recovery period, and because we work to a planned round, it helps us give every customer the care they’re booked in for.
