A world Class Football facility or your Garden

It’s been a busy February at Greener Gardens.

We have continued to invest in our team and product knowledge, attending bespoke training and all the team attended the UK Lawncare Association annual conference, it was a great event with guest speakers, industry leading speakers and suppliers.

We started completing our Spring treatments, getting lawns ready for spring and John attended an Amenity Forum “update“ seminar at Leicester City FC training academy. It was an opportunity to get a greater understanding of industry challenges with a fantastic behind the scenes tour with John Ledwidge, Head of Sports Turf & Grounds at this 185 acre World leading football facility.

Highlights of this facility include:

21 – playing surfaces in total, including 14 full-size pitches
9 – holes on a private golf course, for use by players and staff.
600m2 – raised planters for the growth of herbs and vegetables.
7 – buildings in total, including the King Power Centre and Sports Turf Academy.
7,140 – tonnes of grass seed used to give life to the array of pitches.

A world Class Football facility or your Garden, we share the same principles

On the tour it was clear, if your caring for a world class sporting venue or a domestic lawn we share common principles:

Application techniques: be it using a GPS or a pedestrian sprayer, quality of application is key.

Annual renovation: regardless of usage managing thatch through annual scarification and aeration is vital to maintaining a quality playing surface or your own great looking lawn.

Environment: Protecting and increasing bio diversity is really important. At LCFC they have invested in creating a facility that enables them to manage a world class facility but imprtantly protect and increase bio diversity around the whole site.

How do we apply these practices to the lawns we care for around Nottingham?

Application technique:
All our operators are City and Guild trained in the safe use and application of products, we complete regular maintenance of all the equipment we use and its calibration to ensure what we apply is done so to the highest standard.

Annual renovation:
We understand that not everyone needs to renovate 21 playing surfaces every year, but we do know that customers that care for their lawns with annual aeration and regular scarification have much better looking lawns than those that don’t.

Your garden is probably the biggest living area and adds value to your home. Why not add value and enjoyment and ensure your annual lawn care programme includes:

  • Regular Mowing, for a thicker sward
  • Regular Feeding and Soil Enrichment, we recommend “Lawn Lover”
  • Annual mechanical for a healthy centrepiece to your garden.

Compare your lawn care routine to your car, we all understand the importance of an annual service and your car could well be your fastest deprecating asset.

Greener Gardens have created two packages that deliver great results based on our 18 years’ experience of Nottingham Lawns:

Let the lawn breathe
Create the ideal environment for air, water flow to aid root development and lawn health.

Lawn Refresh
A thorough mechanical clear out of lawn issues preventing the best of lawn health, over seeding will improve colour and texture of your grass plus our natural soil improver will improve soil health and seed establishment.

Environment
At LCFC they have created a facility that enables them protect and increasing bio diversity around the whole site. We can apply these principles to our own gardens, thinking about planting choices around beds, borders and even patio planters. This was you can maintain a weed free lawn and help the environment at the same time.

In 2022, we are exploring how we can help your lawn store and sequester more carbon, reduce mowing and increase bio diversity in your garden.

Did you know

  • A 100m2 lawn can sequester up to 25kg of carbon per annum, your soil profile is a net carbon sink
  • Just two square metres of lawn can produce enough oxygen to support one person for an entire day

Together with our “Organic” offer we have a lawn programme for everyone and so are not just greener in name!
