Red Thread... It's been perfect conditions

We are visiting many lawns and seeing many with varying levels of ‘Red Thread’, the level of severity will mainly come down to the grass types within your lawn.

The recent unsettled weather has led to warm, humid conditions; therefore it’s not surprising to see an outbreak of ‘Red Thread’ on many lawns. The expected arrival of more rainfall, will favour the conditions in which the disease enjoys.

In the growing season, it is a hard call between treating and not treating. Personally, we prefer to try and grow it out, rather than spraying a fungicide.  If you have had or are due an imminent treatment, this may provide enough energy for the lawn to outgrow the attack, but this does depend on your grass species and your rate of growth.

Should you wish to apply a fungicide, this will work as both a contact and provide protection from further attack for up to four weeks.  We would be happy to discuss this with you, if required.

We have updated our web site with pictures and a brief description of Red Thread and its control, which we hope you find useful.
